PART 2 - ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Pat Kellogg Roller, Award-winning Children's Science Specialist, Author, Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Volunteer
believes today's serious problems call for a new kind of thinking. Main character, Pink Hat, playfully expresses
this in Pink Hat's Adventure with Kites. This is the second published book of six she has written.
Roller and her husband live in Oklahoma, New Mexico, and Texas as they follow Pink Hat's adventures.
Her awards include: Oklahoma Teacher of the Year (as Pat Kellogg), Presidential Award for Excellence in Science
and Mathematics, and induction into East Central University, Ada, Oklahoma, "Educators Hall of Fame" in 2008.
Albert Einstein stated: "You cannot solve a problem using the thinking that created it."
Read on and see if you agree this book meets this "new thinking" criteria.
PART 3 -"PINK HAT'S ADVENTURE WITH KITES" - A preview
Pink Hat experiences failure and success.
This eight and one half by eleven inches sturdy book can take a lot of hard use.
Pink Hat, can communicate with all living things. Pink Hat is bright with he full range of emotions of a normal child.
SHE LOVES ADVENTURES MORE THAN ANYTHING! Her attitude of "me" over "we" and her lack of knowledge
of how Planet Earth's winds work could destroy her in this adventure.
The story begins as Pink Hat, after watching a seabird riding the big wind currents, decides
she will ride on and control a small kite in a BIG WIND! Although she tries again and
again and learns something each time, she keeps failing. Tired, hurt, and afraid, she wants to quit.
But "quit" is not in her nature! So she Googles earth's winds and learns about the energy in earth's big winds.
And, she begins to think, in a new way, how to solve her problem. Will she be able to fly on and control a kite?
Will her attitude change? What does she learn? Did she need her "special" power for this adventure?
"PINK HAT'S ADVENTURE WITH KITES" is available as a regular book for $10.95 plus S&H here on our website,
from Amazon, Barnes and Noble online, or as an eBook Conversion for $4.99.
PART 4 -HOW DID 1000 KIDS REACT TO "Pink Hat's Adventure with Kites",
the book and building, flying, and experimenting, with the aerodynamic little kite?
In the spring of 2009, one thousand children ages 4-10, meeting in classes of 10-25 children each,
in schools in Norman, Noble and Ada, Oklahoma and Franklin, Kentucky, became involved with Pink Hat and the little kites.
At the end the children were asked to rank their adventure with Pink Hat. They used a scale of 1-5.
(1-Bad) (2-Did Not Like) (3-O.K.) (4-good) (5-Great).
94% ranked the experience as GOOD or GREAT!
At present,18,000 children, in 17 states and on three continents are working with the Pink Hat's Adventure With
Kites book and building, flying and experimenting with kites. They are having fun while learning how Earth's winds
work, and growing in their creative problem solving skills. On the next page, read comments from readers-children,
teachers, parents and grandparents as well as media.
PART 5 - SOME SUGGESTIONS FOR USING THIS BOOK.
HOW ABOUT AN "END OF SCHOOL CELEBRATION" WITH PINK HAT & THE KITES? Why? The curriculum is so structured
in public school today, it is difficult to get any time for experimenting and working on problem-solving skills. The last
three weeks of school, when the testing is over, is a great time to do Pink Hat and the Kites. It can even be a competition!
KIDS LOVE IT! It is very inexpensive, about 20 cents per kite, and the little book is discounted.
Better yet, don't wait for the schools to do it. Pack a picnic on a windy day, make the little kites, and take the whole family out
to learn to work with the wind, flying and experimenting with the little kites they make. Notice on page 2, Make a Kite (Images)
shows the little kite flying in a neighborhood! It does not take a lot of space, just a good wind!
After school, in the summer, at camp, anywhere children gather is a great time
to hook up woth Pink Hat's Adventures.
